Armstrong Re-ups with Thrashers

Colby Armstrong and the Thrashers have agreed to terms on a new contract, avoiding arbitration.

There’s not a whole lot to say about this deal. I think we all know what Army brings to the team- a great personality, some grit, a solid effort night after night, and some clutch goals. 19 of Armstrong’s 22 goals came at even strength, tying him for second on the team in that category (with Bryan Little, and behind Ilya Kovalchuk).  Armstrong is an underrated offensive player who has a knack for finding loose pucks. He clicked with Rich Peverley on the second line but can also add some offensive to the third line if he ends up playing with a guy like Marty Reasoner.

You won’t find many guys that are more fun to have around in the locker room than Colby Armstrong and it’s good to have him back.

  2. Why is this only a one year deal Ben? Any insights as to why the team didn’t offer. Or do you think Colby would rather take a wait and see approach with this season’s team before committing. I would hope DW and Dudley would have the presence of mind to recognize his value on and off the ice and offer him at least a 2 year deal. He’s UFA after this year and I’d hate to lose him!

I don’t have details of the contract aside from what has been written elsewhere and I don’t know what he was or wasn’t offered.

Glad we resigned Armstrong! I wonder the same thing why only one year.

    Ben,
I was looking at the player tracker, and I know you have to update Armstrong and Lehtonen on there, but Brett Skinner is already signed by Colorado on July 8. Not sure if you knew or just forgot to update. I know you and Falconer have been busy at Prospect Camp.

I wish this was a 5 year deal, but if its only 1 or 2….well, that’s better than Army wearing a different uniform this season.

Waddudley kept all our RFA/UFAs that were worth something and brought in the top 4 defender and top 6 forward we needed. They also had a fantastic draft.

Taking everything we’ve done so far into account…I am a happy camper today. This is great news.
