If you haven’t seen the highlights from last night’s 5-4 win n Montreal make sure you can check them out. It was an exciting game and despite two Montreal comeback attempts the Thrashers never trailed.
Rich Peverley was the story of the game, banking a shot in off of Bryan Little to open the scoring then scoring a goal of his own two minutes later. Early in the second he tried to avoid a Spacek hit along the boards and got clipped and appeared to be injured in the process, but he was back on the ice a few shifts later and he assisted on Pavel Kubina’s third period power-play goal. Peverley was the first star of the game and finished with a goal, two assists (for 16 points in 11 games), a team-high four hits, two blocked shots, a 75% faceoff winning percentage and 22:34 of ice time- tops among Atlanta forwards. If there was an All-Star Game this year (there isn’t because of the Olympics) Peverley would deserve serious consideration.
Peverley wasn’t the only story though. Bryan Little got credit for his first goal of the season, as did Pavel Kubina and Mark Popovic. Popovic’s was the first of his NHL career, so congrats to him.
Bryan Little also had an assist, so he finished the night with two points, and Todd White picked up a helper as well. The trio of Peverley, White, and Little looked very strong throughout the game and will likely be kept together for the immediate future.
Nik Antropov was the other player with a multi-point night, earning assists on Popovic and Kubina’s goals.
Then there was Colby Armstrong, who did a second intermission interview for the second time in Montreal and once again followed it up with a goal. It came at 13:14 of the third, just 44 seconds after Montreal had tied the game at 4-4, and it stood up as the game-winner. Kane and Reasoner picked up the assists and I thought that line had a very strong game. Kane keeps looking better and better, and he’s not afraid to shoot the puck. The line combined for eight shots and plenty of scoring chances, and they did an outstanding job of keeping the puck deep in Montreal’s end.
The Thrashers also had a good night on special teams, going 1-4 on the power play and 3-3 on the PK.
The Thrashers are now 6-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 on the road. They’ve moved up to 11th in the East and are just one point out of 8th and two points away from 6th place.
Next up are the Blue Jackets tomorrow night at Philips Arena. Come on out and support the surging Thrashers.
Is Pavelec no longer eligible for the Calder Trophy?

I wonder, which line Kozzy will go to when Kovy, if the Peverley-White-Little line can keep up their play from last night, because i can`t imagine him playing with Kane and Army!
What is your opinion?

If Kozzy doesn’t step it up soon, he might find himself in the press-box for a game or two when Kovy comes back. I think you may see Little go back with Kovy & Antro even if he scores well with Pevs. Those 3 had good chemistry despite the lack of goals and, if not for such a bad performance by the 2nd line, they probably would not have been broken up in the first place. If Kane keeps progressing, Kozzy is in jeopardy of losing his 2nd line job.
Kovy – Antro – Little
Kozlov – Pevs – Army (our best line at the end of last season)
Kane – White – Finny (a scary fast line, but could be weak defensively)

I’m getting a Peverley jersey! The man is on a mission to not let Kovy’s absence hurt the team.
