Kane and Kovalchuk Practicing Today

So far, so good at today’s Thrashers practice. Ilya Kovalchuk is back on the ice and should be ready to go tomorrow night in New York, and back home on Friday and Sunday. Evander Kane is also back on the ice after missing yesterday’s practice to have his foot examined (he took a shot to it on Sunday). Boris Valabik is also skating, and unlike yesterday when he wore the red “I’m not 100% healthy” jersey he’s wearing the standard white defenseman practice duds. That doesn’t mean he’s ready to play, but he’s getting closer. With the addition of Valabik to the mix we have eight defensemen in practice.

**UPDATE**

Kovy left the ice while players were warming up. He was shaking his head and talking to the assistant trainer as he went off. I’ll keep you posted.

**UPDATE**

Every time I look away something happens. Rich Peverley has switched to a yellow jersey so don’t I don’t expect Kovy to be back out. For a second I thought it was Kovy again.

**UPDATE**

Chris Vivlamore says the yellow jersey was already on the bench, so he thinks Kovy’s early exit was planned. We’ll see.

Kovy is watching practice form the bench now. Boris Valabik has left the ice, but that’s to be expected as he’s still easing his way back into things.

    Ben,
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the meaning of the different colored Jerseys?

Rick… line combinations… that means that Peverley took Kovalchuk’s place on the top line for the rest of practice.

Well we can say whatever we want to ourselves but shaking his head means his foot is still hurting, its a broken bone for crying out loud! a broken bone never takes less then a month even with super healthy overdosing on calcium teenagers, so how long do you think it will take a 26 year old guy who loses all his calcium and vitamins during summer camp and depends on a super diet filled with all kinds of vitamins and calcium during the season in order to stay in one peace…
I think he should have taken the minimum 4 week stay at home no stress on the leg…and started training on the 5th week, even if it takes a conditioning assignment in Chicago…..better to be out now, then in the middle and the end of the season

apache, i understand where ur coming from with the whole rushing kovy back into play thing, but honestly he has been cleared by everyone who he needs clearance from, so its entirely up to kovy. let him play and if its sore then just take more time off, but seriously atl needs kovy back, no 500 team is gonna make the playoffs.

Yeh well news been going around that he left the ice shaking his head, and some russian sources say that he simply couldn’t finish practice cause it hurt, so theres another week on top of the 3-4 that he was supposed to have….and if he hurts his foot more, ATL might not even have 500 with him on squad as well….You think a clearance is hard to get? how you think Bure lost his career?
