John Anderson saw enough that he liked in Saturday night’s 4-3 OT win over the Canadiens to go with the same lineup again tonight in New York where the Thrashers take on the Rangers. According to Dan Kamal Johan Hedberg will get the start in goal (that’s three starts for him in the last four games) and Anssi Salmela and Jim Slater will be the scratches. No word on if the actual lines remain intact, but my guess is that they will.
The Rangers are 1-5-1 in their last seven games and are really struggling to put pucks in the net, scoring just 12 goals in those seven games. Marion Garborik leads the team in goals with 22 but nobody else has more than six and the New York media is all over the team. Stan Fischler’s game preview is just a taste of what’s being written about the Rangers, but you get the idea- the Blueshirts are below .500, out of a playoff spot, and most embarrassing of all for a Rangers fan, they’ve been passed by the Islanders. Yikes.
New York will be out for revenge tonight. You should recall that in the only previous meeting of the two teams this season Ilya Kovalchuk came back from his broken foot and led Atlanta to a 5-3 win at MSG. A Thrashers win could potentially move them back into sixth place in the Eastern Conference depending on the outcome of the Toronto/Ottawa game. You can catch tonight’s game on SportSouth at 7pm.
big game….interesting that this early in the year ATL will already be done with their visits to MSG and Montreal

Ya December is going to be a road game heavy schedule. Just wait until March when it’s mostly home games and alot of games too. Hopefully Thrashers will come out and play like they ended up playing Saturday. They need to just realize that they need to work very hard every shift for 60 minutes and be committed to doing so every game. They can’t be taking shifts or periods off. If they get caught back on their heels again they can expect to see 3-5 goals scored on them again and they can kiss those 2pts goodbye.
