Injury Updates: Enstrom Out of All-Star Game

I just got the injury news from Duluth and it looks like the Thrashers will use the same lineup tomorrow night against Washington that they used in Tampa on Sunday with one potential change. Here is where the injured players stand:

- Toby Enstrom- Has a fractured finger in his right hand and will miss 2-4 weeks. Needless to say, he won’t be going to the NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh this weekend.
- Andrew Ladd- Day-to-day with a lower body injury. He didn’t practice today but hasn’t been ruled out for tomorrow night’s game.
- Jim Slater (concussion), Chris Mason (knee) and Evander Kane (upper body) remain out. Slater and Mason are both on the IR.

Don’t expect any callups between now and tomorrow night’s home game but something could be done after the All-Star break, especially on the blueline. Hopefully by then Ladd, Kane, and/or Slater will be ready to return.

It’s disappointing that Toby will miss the All-Star Game in Raleigh but he obviously can’t play with a broken finger. Hopefully he’ll come back sooner rather than later and be rested when he hits the ice again. I’m sure Dustin Byfuglien will do the Thrashers proud as the team’s sole representative, although I won’t be shocked if Alex Burmistrov is a late edition for the skills competition with the number of players who have had to opt out (like Ales Hemsky and Jordan Eberle in Edmonton).

No Mighty Mouse at the All-Star Game? That’s a bummer for Toby, but hopefully he can heal quickly and get back out where he’s needed most.

  2. Ben"Jammin" says:

I bummed for Toby. He has earned his place at the ASG.

I am hoping for some miracle healing over this short break because more than likely we are going to be out of a playoff spot getting back to action. And quite frankly this current roster and line combos are just terrible. Its time for this team to stop feeling sorry for itself and get some of that confidence and swagger back that it had in late November.

The Falcons are done…Thrashers, if you want anyone to attend your second half games, you have to start playing like you care!!!!

  3. Sam says:

Stinks for Toby. Really stinks for the Thrashers power play, as well as the team’s playoff chances. Toby’s in the top 5 in the NHL for points for a D-man and blocked shots. He’s the PP quarterback and the team’s best passer. For a not-the-biggest guy, he’s going to leave a huge talent hole.

Slates isn’t talked about much, but he had one of the best faceoff win percentages in the league when he went out. He’s a solid defensive forward, strong on the PK, brings a physical energy to every shift. IMO he’s missed more than Kane in the team’s big picture.

Haven’t even mentioned the loss of the captain yet or our lack of depth in goal with Mason’s injury.

Confidence and swagger are alot easier to produce when half your roster’s not injured.

The Rangers are managing to play with swagger with all the following players out: Dubinsky, Callahan, Christensen, Prospal, Frolov, Fedotenko, Girardi, Christensen, and Boogard. They still managed to beat us. There’s no excuse for that. We’re going to have to stop coming up with excuses and feeling sorry for ourselves if we ever want to win again.

      • Boo says:

As far as our player playing with swagger well I think the team has taken a beating in the last couple weeks and with the FANS being like they are only supporting them when they win and not when they lose — WHY should they bust ass if we are not going to stand behind them?? EVEN in Buffalo they support their team when they LOSE!! The fans in Atl need to get a clue as to how to be fans and stop this “if they win” crap!!

I LOVE MY THRASHERS EVEN WHEN THEY LOSE!!! Yes I love them more when they win but I will be at every game because I love the sport and I am a TRUE FAN for the Thrashers!!

        • BIGBUFF says:

criticizing the team is not abandoning it. if we didn’t care about the thrashers, we wouldn’t be following all the blogs and commenting about issues the team may have. i still go to every game i can, but that doesn’t change the fact that im utterly disappointed in this team. you can pretend that everything is roses, but if you did, i would question if you have watched a single game this past month.

          • Boo says:

I know its not roses, but on more than one occasion I have watched the DIE HARD FANS walk out.

I admit that I love it when they win!! I love it when things go our way, but it is not all the players fault. When the officials are not calling obvious penalties and are overlooking things what are the players supposed to do?? It isn’t all their fault and I am not going to blame them for it! I blame the NHL for allowing officials to call games in this manner and not doing anything about making them less biased.

So no there are no ROSES or ROSE colored glasses just a fan of the sport!

        • BIGBUFF says:

so every time we lose, it’s because of the league and its refs? interesting theory. . .

          • Boo says:

DID I SAY EVERYTIME???????? NO I DIDN’T BUT OK!! typical cant take someone else having an opinion about the fans in Atl and their eagerness to blame everything on the team when its not all team there are a lot of factors, I was just stating that most games I see and fans around me see — the refs suck at making decent calls and it seems to be that way even when we travel!!

But OH WELL its just a game I enjoy watching!

  4. Malcolm says:

What I think we really need to do is find an enforcer to acquire by the trade deadline. With eager gone, we really need some on-ice muscle. You know, the type of guy that scores more penalty minutes than goals.

We need to look for a bruiser who is an unrestricted free agent on a team that is definitely out of a playoff spot.

Also, due to the room in our salary cap at the moment, we really need to see if we can steal a top 10 (heck, even top 15) forward who is a UFA on a playoff-doomed team. We need a sniper who can take all the passes that Enstrom, Stewart, and Thorburn like to make.

Thats what we need, a bruiser and a sniper from teams that are out of the playoffs, then as soon as everyone is healed and ready to go, the Thrashers will be #1 in the SE again. Mark my words.

  5. danielle says:

    Dislike! Get will soon:(

  6. Barry says:

This team DOES NOT need a bruiser. You are kidding right? All a bruiser that racks up PIMs will do is put this team short handed with an already TERRIBLE PK! What this team REALLY needs is a top 6 scoring winger with some size. Also coaching and/or management needs to do something with Bogosian. He is just terrible this year. You guys see how he tried to play that puck at the blueline when Tampa scored that SHG? That was laughable. He tried getting down on all 4′s to stop the puck with his hands instead of kicking the puck back in the zone or taking the body on that Tampa player. He played that like he was afraid to get hit and had no idea what to do with that puck.

    • Malcolm says:

Okay, will I used an improper term when I spoke earlier. We don’t need a “bruiser” who racks up the PIMs, but….we do need someone who will hit people. Maybe we don’t need an additional player, but they need to coach physical play back into our game.

I watched both Tampa Bay games, and no one hit stamkos, lecavalier, or St. Louis the entire time. We just need to adjust our play style perhaps. We just need to hit people more. Maybe thats because Kane and Slater are out right now…..

Anyway, with a top 6 scorer and a physical player (or just improved physical play) we should be good.

  7. Michael says:

I heard the point spread on the Washington Capitals vs the Atlanta AHL Thrashers is Washington minus a touchdown!

  8. Jack burmistrov says:

i too am bummed for toby, ladd, Kane, and Slater for being injured ,but if the thrashers cant play without them, then this isnt a “team sport”.
